For a long, long time I was never allowed to wear makeup. And, now that I do, I feel like I’ve missed out on something. So many girls, despite what they may say, are professionals when it comes to makeup. I don’t even know how to blend eyeshadow. Mainly, that’s because I live in a strict home. So when I was given my very first tube of mascara, I got flashbacks of my first year of Spanish class.
I know what you’re thinking. Who compares mascara to Spanish? Well, I do, because makeup might as well have been a foreign language. I’m not going to lie, it still is.
As I’ve said, I live in a strict home where makeup is unwelcomed. So, when I was caught wearing my mascara I was asked what makeup really was to me.
Makeup doesn’t fill the void from when I was a child and couldn’t get those Cinderella eyeshadow palettes for six-year-olds. Well, actually, it kind of does. But, that’s not the point. The point is that makeup is art.
Art is usually known as paint on a canvas, or a sculpture, or a sketch. But art is a song, story, clothes. So, anyone who is against the fact that I enjoy putting on makeup, tell me, why can’t I put art on my face?
Even though I suck at art, especially putting it on my face, I enjoy doing it. And isn’t that what art is all about? Having fun and expressing yourself? And when did makeup not fall into either of those categories?
So, I don’t know about you, but I don’t wear makeup. I wear art.
