Have you ever had a moment when you felt true terror for your life or others around you because of someone else’s actions?? If you look back and think about it. How many times were those actions being performed? How many times have you been terrified as a woman for your safety or for others safety because of a stranger?
It's a chest-tightening experience. Your chest feels tight, you start to breath faster, you feel like you’ve been transported into a small space with that person. You feel like you’re screaming for help, but you’re truly too terrified to actually scream. Well, let me just say that women all around the world, myself included, have been in that situation. And lots of people don’t believe us. When I went through this experience I broke down afterward and the people who I broke down in front of told me that I just wasn’t street smart. I was told that I just wasn’t street smart, that I didn’t know what to do.
We as a society shouldn’t tell people their faults after a traumatic experience like that. We should be comforting those terrified not putting them down. Women all around the world, each minute, go through something that they will never forget. Some not as severe as others, but all are equally traumatic. Some women keep all emotions surrounding that event to themselves. Others can’t help but cry and that’s a completely appropriate reaction. Anybody you open to should always comfort you and help you through it.
Nobody truly ever knows what you are going through/ have gone through and if anyone ever gives you a hard time for it I would suggest showing them this article. Because a lot of people who give you a hard time have never been in that type of experience. So if you are ever in that type of situation then reach out to someone who has been through a traumatic experience and talk to them. Help each other get through it. And if you have no one you can contact me. I am always here and my dms are always open. So please message me if you ever need someone to talk to.
