stand up and look at her
straight into the flawless glass
at the perfectly flawless girl
look into her eyes
speak to her honestly
let her remove her mask
don’t let her laugh at you
and don’t laugh at her
i know she’s scary
like a monster under the bed
always there
and sort of invisible
but you need to look at her
smile, and say
“please, leave me alone”
and when she leaves
look at the new image
standing before you
the less-than-flawless girl
and listen to her
as she smiles
says to you
“wow, you are
marvelous.”
