Louder Now

It may not seem like it, but we are at a turning point in society every waking moment of our lives. Every word we utter becomes a piece of history. Every piece of history becomes a fragment of “normality”. The quote that reverberates with truth; “We blame society, but we are society” should always be in the back of our minds when we speak out. People are influenced by those who came before them, no matter their age.

My generation was often and is still sometimes referred to as apathetic. Now I hear equal criticism, but for “going too far” with our views and opinions. You wanted us to speak up, stand out, do something, and we did. We are. We recognize that our earth needs saving, that our government needs fixing, that our very livelihood needs rebuilding. We want to vote, but we’re too young. We want childhood, but for many it is stolen away by violence. We are the voices of future, yet you refuse to listen to us. All we can do now is grow louder. And stronger. And demand. Demand change, demand peace, demand equality. Make it known that there is no room for hate in a world so weary of war. Make it understood that the earth is going to be passed down through many generations, and it’s our purpose to protect and improve it as best we can while we have the chance to. We cannot allow others to believe—even for a fleeting moment—that we are apathetic. We shape the society of future generations. We’re louder now.

Love always, Josie
